Demonstrating one modular product idea across industries

Situation

The client brought a modular loyalty idea and early designs. Their product team selected industries where they already had experience, contacts and market knowledge.

Role and responsibility

I led two designers from my team and was responsible for design decisions, client coordination and delivery. We translated the existing approaches into a shared interface and tangible industry variants.

Approach

We applied the client's selected industries to shared modules for membership, offers, coupons, events and locations, adapting content and emphasis to each context.

Result

The client received designs and prototypes for presenting the same product idea in their relevant industries.

01 Shared foundation

Bringing the modules
into a coherent interface.

The core functions were already outlined. We brought them together visually and developed them for different use cases, using an initial set of recurring components.

The Offer Stream combines membership status, benefits, offers and events. Which elements appear, and their emphasis, changes by industry.

Shared functional areas in different forms: membership, offers, coupons and events.
Membership

Make status, points and progress towards the next benefit visible.

Offers

Arrange coupons, product offers and special benefits in the stream.

On site

Include locations and events in each concept.

02 Designing membership

Expressing membership status
through the interface.

The two luxury-retail concepts show different expressions of the same membership logic.

The first variant centres on points, progress and the next benefit. A nearby store and an event connect the digital offering to a visit.

The VIP variant shifts the emphasis: the highest tier has already been reached. Exclusive offers replace progress towards the next status, and the visual design reflects that distinction.

03 Industry variants

Adapting content
to each context.

The variants needed to speak the language of each business. Alongside visual design, we adapted the selection and weighting of content.

Examples covered petrol stations, luxury retail, outdoor, restaurants, DIY stores and garden centres. The designs shown here illustrate two of those contexts.

Restaurant concept with direct order and reservation entry points and coupons to activate

Restaurants

Coupons and direct actions.

Ordering and reservations come first, followed by coupons and offers in horizontal rows.

Outdoor concept with membership status, points, a nature bonus and product offers

Outdoor

Membership and offers.

The home combines the points balance with a prominent action and product offers. Event views extend the concept.

04 My responsibility

Leading the design work.
Delivering with the team.

We worked directly with the client under limited time and resources. Our approach was pragmatic: build on existing ideas, establish a shared foundation and develop specific variants from it.

As lead, I guided two of my designers and handled client coordination, design decisions and delivery. The screens and prototypes were developed together within userdoo.
